Research your topic – toastmasters speech 7 – 3 easy methods to research your topic
Research. What’s the first thing you think of when that word comes up?
“New adventure?” – “More analysis” – “Study more in-depth” ?
Research holds keys to wonderful information that can add depth and strong insight to your audience. Also, it makes your position more viable when you use expertise outside of your own.
Here’s 3 simple ways to research your topic:
#1 – Google. Ah yes, the ever famous Google. All you have to do is type the word’s in that you want to learn about. Sorting through all that information though – that’s a trick in itself. If you’re looking for a particular phrase, try putting it in quotation marks. Use google for all sorts of information.
For example, if you want to learn about Brett Favre throwing a game winning touchdown pass – type, “Brett Favre Game Winning Touchdown Pass” and see the results that come up. Using ” quotes ” in your Google search can narrow results quickly for you.
#2 – The public library. When’s the last time you’ve been to the library? Instead of going through multiple sources on the internet and not quite finding what you’re looking for – why not try an hour at your county library? Plenty of resources are available there.
#3 – Ask your spouse or your kids. You’d be surprised what they think is “hot” or “new and upcoming” to what you think is hot and upcoming. Kids especially have great clues. Audiences love funny quotes from kids. It adds spark and enthusiasm.
